Our lifestyle & wellness editor – Tshepo Masipa

Tshepo Masipa was born and raised in North West Province, Saulspoort in a rural village called Sandfontein. Currently residing in Pretoria living a life of being an employee, mom, wife and part-time fitness trainer. I am very blessed with a wonderful family of 3 boys and a girl and a great circle of friends around me.

How do you Keep Clients Motivated?

It all starts in your mind. The power of your thoughts. Positive self-talk, no self-criticism and judgement.

Love your body as it is,  while my clients understand my motto: very well, “it is not about the weight you lose BUT MORE about the health you gain”.

My favorite hashtag #EatForHealth

Keep going by focusing more on your achievements and successes no matter how small, and celebrate them ✨

Training Philosophy

Training should not be a punishment to your body if you ate a burger or any food you somehow feel you shouldn’t have eaten. Training should be fun and should make you feel good about yourself.

Dress-up comfortably for it, show up with confidence, look good, be realistic and JUST MOVE NJE

What two jams get you going when exercising?

Jams ne😂😂😂😂

Honestly, I do not have a preferred music to workout on. Any music that gets me moving, I MOVE but I prefer to listen to motivational speakers such as Jay Shetty & Lisa. *My favorites*

If I were to choose though, I would go with hip hop music, any hip hop kind of gets me in a perfect mood to workout. Don’t ask me which hip hop song or singer I like ne*🙈🙈

What’s the one exercise move you swear by?

Ooh Gosh, there is 3 and I actually enjoy combining them in one. (Burpees, Squats and Plank variations)

She cannot do any exercise routine without them. It is one of those exercises that she Loves and  hate type of relationship.

They always leave me lying helpless and breathless on the floor. You should see me hey, “she giggles”

What’s your favorite snack t eat after a workout and why?

She enjoys and love Herbalife Rebuild Strength shake. It helps her to recover easily, reduces muscle soreness and fatigue. And helps with building lean muscle and tone up easily. Above all, it is very tasty and just the smell of it, yum yummy .

Tshepo also love to include banana or dates in her shakes as they are high in potassium, which is a great idea to help revitalize her body after working out and also helps to flush out any excess salt and water weight, which is something I learned from other fitness trainers from Instagram 👌🏾

Must have equipment fro turning your home space into a gym?

I will always believe that you’re the best equipment, YES YOU! You are 100% the Equipment you need, YOUR OWN BODY!

Any other Equipment is just there to add extra resistance so as to push yourself beyond your limits.

Your body is capable of doing anything, anytime and anywhere. You cannot forget it wherever you go right?😂😂

We should stop limiting our bodies from exploring itself, stop judging it and stop hating it. You will be amazed at what it can achieve once you put your mind to it.

  • Own Your Mind
  • Own Your Thoughts
  • Start Owning Your Body

Self-Appreciation and Self-love is key to use that Equipment naturally given by God to it’s full capacity👉👉 *Your Body*

Are there any foods you avoid?

Food, Food, Food, I love food, I cannot avoid food as they are everywhere I go. I have learned that the hard way though that the more you avoid certain food, there more you crave them. “She says with a naughty smile in her face”

Tshepo has learned to understand her body, what makes it unhealthy and what makes it well. Then she made a decision to start a journey about eating clean and limit unhealthy foods.

Her favorite, its sweet-things, she has a very sweet tooth, she will never avoid cake and chocolates instead she has learned to eat less of them.

What are your top exercise routine, and how do you remain disciplined?

Well, I am actually still learning what Exercise routine can work best for me BUT BEFORE lockdown this is how my week would look like;

  • Monday: Lower body
  • Tuesday: Upper body
  • Wednesday: Rest or Body stretch exercises like yoga or pilates
  • Thursday: Total Body Workout
  • Friday: Rest
  • Saturday: Cardio/Aerobics
  • Sunday: Swimming 🏊‍♂️

What do you do on recovery days?

I actually use Sunday as my full Recovery day because after swimming, she would take a relaxing bubble bath at home with some soft music 🎶 at the background, then do facials such as exfoliation, masking and  all that.

Then take all fitness magazines and look into meals ideas, exercise routines and any other ideas that could improve her tank of knowledge so that she can help more woman reach their general health goals out there.

My main vision, is to own a fitness club one day🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♂️
