My name is Refilwe Tladi born and raised in Phuthaditjhaba Qwa Qwa in the Free State. Ke ngwana Mosotho, ena ngwana Thari e ntsho. I am a mother to 2 beautiful girls aged 10 and4 and God blessed me with another special daughter aged 19 from my marriage. I am a wife, a sister and a friend to many who call me Mmasetjhaba because I am a giver with a heart of Gold. I have been staying in Rustenburg for the past 12 years which officially makes me a “Rustenburger”.
I am a passionate entrepreneur having been involved in diverse business ventures since 2010 which include Events Management and Catering, Barcelos Restaurant Franchise at Boitekong Mall Rustenburg to name a few.
Over the years I have overseen the start up and running of different enterprises, where I gained valuable experience on how to run a successful business. I am currently the owner of a successful Tour Operating Company based in Rustenburg called Thalerra Tours Shuttles and Safaris trading as “Travel with Fifi” in the Industry. I also own shares in a Mining company called Maps Minerals which is a family business. In a nutshell, I am a Tourism and Mining Entrepreneur.
“If you’re always trying to be normal, you’ll never know how amazing you can be” Maya Angelou. This basically means, if you can dream it then you can live/be it. There is nothing wrong with being extra-ordinary. Live your life to the fullest potential.
I am a Woman in Tourism, proud owner and founder of a Tour Operating company based in Rustenburg called Thalerra Tours Shuttles and Safaris. We operate in South Africa and neighbouring African Countries like Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Kenya and Malawi to name a few.
The core of our business is Domestic Tourism, which means that we focus mainly on South Africa and all its Tourism product offerings. We put together travel packages which include accommodation, flights, transport and activities in the form of an Adventure, Safari and Cultural heritage. We make life easier for the traveler. We also provide leisure and corporate travel services. My love for Tourism has to be the main reason.
I am a born leader, I have the drive and passion to lead. I wanted the freedom to do things my way and to elevate others while at it. I wanted the freedom to have to watch my kids’ netball matches, their first day of school, their ballet and swimming lessons. I wanted to have the freedom to inspire.
Starting a business as a woman is not an easy task because we know we have the PhD (Pull her Down) syndrome among ourselves. Despite the Patriarchy, we have proven over and over again that we can do it. Let’s honour and celebrate each other because together we can achieve more.
It means Power, it means that I am a conqueror and that nothing can defeat me. Despite the hardship and sleepless nights, I managed to achieve my goals. It means that once I have made it, I should throw down the ladder for other inspirational women like myself to climb up and join me at the top. It means I should never forget where I come from and how I got there because no man is an Island.
Creating jobs and eradicating poverty amongst our people. Giving people hope and encouraging the youth to dream because dreams do come true if you work towards them. Becoming a role model to others who looks up to me and aspire to be just like me.
Due to Covid-19 and the country’s Lockdown regulations, the Tourism Industry was hit the hardest. I was hit hard, no enquiries were coming through, no quotations were being sent out and no packages were being sold and no money was coming through. We hit a zero mark quicker than I could blink.
Lucky for me I did not put all my eggs in one basket as I had other income streams and support structure. Not all of us were as lucky as me.
My heart is into this and my passion speaks for itself. The drive I have for the industry is overwhelming. I’m a go getter and my packages speak to my market. I don’t package for the fun of it and hope people will buy, I create a need and speak to a specific crowd. I sell authenticity and focus on SA’s hidden gems. Yes, I do, I have previously mentioned that no man is an island and I stand by these words, I strongly believe that together we can move mountains.
We need to educate travellers in our communities to travel at home first before travelling to other parts of the world. My dream is to see more South Africans travelling. I want to create more jobs and to empower the youth in our communities.
